END SYSTEMIC RACISM

"There was a right side and a wrong side in the late war, which no sentiment ought to cause us to forget." Fredrick Douglas, 1887

  • Platform

Democrats will fight to end institutional and systemic racism in our society. We will challenge and dismantle the structures that define lasting racial, economic, political, and social inequity.

  • Local Priority

There are more insidious social structures that should be dismantled but blatant physical ones are 11 Confederate memorials and markers on city property. We should commit to pushing the Republican-controlled City Council to relocate these symbols to museums, cemeteries, are similar locations. As a minimum, places like Hemming Park should have prominent plaques at each entry point that provide historical context, as many other southern cities have done.
